Joanna has worked in social care since 1991. She graduated from The University of North London in 1995 with the DipSW and is registered with the General Social Care Council. She also holds an enhanced CRB.
Since September, 2008 Joanna has been an independent social worker. She is employed by Local Authorities and private agencies to do specific pieces of work, assessments and court reports. Joanna is also able to work through the courts.
Between 1995 and 2008 Joanna worked for different London Boroughs and Local Authorities as a child protection social worker, specialising in the most complex child abuse cases and care proceedings. Joanna’s preference was always to continue in front line work.
Prior to qualifying as a social worker, she spent time as a residential social worker working with young children who had been sexually abused. At that time she was employed by Sexual Abuse Child Consultancy Service (SACCS).
Joanna has also spent several months working with children who have suffered extreme emotional and physical deprivation and neglect in Romania.
Particular Areas of Expertise
Joanna has extensive experience of working with children who are victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. Joanna also has extensive experience of working with parents / carers who suffer mental ill-health, who are victims or perpetrators of domestic abuse, sex offenders, and drug and alcohol misuse.
She is trained in brief solution focus therapy, domestic abuse and the family assessment and home inventory model.
Joanna also has on-going training around all issues pertinent to the abuse of children, such as drug and alcohol misuse, mental ill heath, working with Black and Minority Ethnic groups. Joanna has had extensive training in the sexual abuse of children, looking at the child and the perpetrator.
